About YMF Car Parts

YMF Car Parts (York Motor Factors Ltd) was founded in 1969 by husband and wife team Bill and Mary O’Brien. The original premises were rather modest, an old butchers shop in Layerthorpe York.

Today the business operates from six sites in York (Layerthorpe), York (Poppleton), Malton, Selby, Scarborough and Harrogate.

We currently operate a fleet of over 30 delivery vehicles for our trade account holders with a counter collection service for our cash and retail customers.

The business has evolved and grown with the development of the motor car. In the late sixties and seventies our roads were dominated by Vauxhall, Ford and British Leyland vehicles; Japanese and European cars remained relatively rare.

Today's roads are characterised by a much broader range of vehicle makes and models. This has led to a huge increase in the range and volume of parts we have had to stock.

As a business we have embraced these changes and developed our offering to match the changing needs of the market place.

Vehicle components are, however, only part of the picture. Like any other business we depend on our “people.” It is people who make the difference and at YMF we have an excellent team who are committed to setting us apart from the competition. We combine the latest information technology such as VRM (sourcing accurate vehicle data from your registration number) with a good old fashioned interest in the job! We want you to come back with repeat business.

Our objective is very simple; we want to supply the right part at the right price at the right time, every time! We are often told we achieve this far more frequently than our competitors.

The parts team are supported by a small army of delivery drivers who ensure the right parts get to the right customers at the right time. Our customers frequently compliment us on how helpful, courteous and efficient our drivers are.

A significant date

In 1994 we were invited to join the country’s premier buying group, an organisation known as the IFA (IMTFA). This proved a very significant date in our development. It allowed us access to world class original equipment brands at prices which enabled us to compete in an increasingly competitive market place. Membership also enabled us to network with some of the most respected individuals in our industry; in turn this brought new ideas and fresh insights into our business.
