SGS Gases: Rent-Free Welding Gases

SGS gases are ideal for lower volume users. From hobby welders to high-street garages, we can provide savings upwards of £200 per year against the established and expensive rental cylinders! With a range to suit most garage applications, from air-con testing to MIG and TIG welding, our cylinders come in 10L and 20L sizes.

5% CO2/Argon Mix

Used for MIG welding of mild steel up to around 6mm in thickness, this is our best-selling product and one of the most widely used welding gases in the industry. This gas provides a far superior weld than its cheaper counterpart, CO2. A 15% blend is also available for heavy-duty welding ranging from 6mm upwards.

Pure Argon

A TIG welding shielding gas used while welding stainless, mild steel and aluminium with a TIG machine — ideal for the fine, accurate work made possible by the skilled welder.

Nitrogen (Oxygen Free)

Nitrogen is used primarily for air-con testing, a legal requirement before filling a system with the high GWP refrigerants such as R134a. Our nitrogen is both dry and oxygen-free to meet all safety requirements.

Nitrogen is also used for tyre inflation and is the gas of choice for many weird and wonderful pressure applications, such as gearbox actuators in top fuel drag bikes, specific brands of motorsport air jacks and even the mighty nitrogen cannons!

Oxygen & Profuel

Our oxygen and Profuel setup replaces the old and often dangerous oxy-acetylene burning equipment. With our specialist nozzles explicitly designed for Profuel, our kits not only achieve similar peak temperatures, but they have a significantly decreased risk of flashback too.

Profuel is an LPG, similar to propane or butane, but it burns a lot hotter, is safer to transport, can be stored either horizontally or vertically and does not require a "rest" period after transportation. Simply stand the cylinder up, and it's ready to go!

All gas bottles come with a surcharge instead of a monthly rental fee. The surcharge varies depending on the bottle size and is refunded on return of the empty gas bottle.

Why Use Rent-Free Gas Cylinders?

For those who infrequently use gas, YMF Car Parts acknowledges that you don't always benefit from the regular rental or full-service model. A small cylinder suits those who use little gas, making our rent-free cylinders the perfect choice.

Rather than paying regular rental fees, we charge you a surcharge for the bottle, which can then be refilled as you need it without incurring any further charges. This allows you to use the gas sparingly and drastically reduces your costs.

How to Purchase a Gas Cylinder from YMF Car Parts

Simply go to our website, choose the right gas cylinder for you, pay online and use our click and collect service to pick up your cylinder the next day from any of our six locations in Yorkshire.

You will pay a one-time surcharge plus the cost of the gas. You then only need to pay for top-ups as and when you need them by returning to one of our branches. We don't charge any other deposits or rental charges. Perfect for those who infrequently need gas to weld.

Gas Cylinder Safety

Handling and Use

  • Use in a vertical position, unless specifically designed to be used otherwise.
  • Secure the cylinders when moving to prevent them from falling over.
  • Always ensure you're using the right gas for the intended use.
  • Make sure the gas is suitable for the tool or piece of equipment you are using.
  • When using the gas, wear suitable personal protective equipment, including safety shoes.
  • Do not use the cylinders for any other purpose than transport and storage of the gas.
  • Avoid dropping, dragging and rolling the cylinders.
  • Keep the cylinder valve closed when not in use and replace dust caps.
  • Ensure the valve is protected and secure using the valve cap at all times.

Lifting and Moving

  • When lifting cylinders, use suitable cradles, slings or clamps.
  • Never lift a cylinder by its valve, unless specifically instructed to do so by the manufacturer.
  • Cylinders should not be lifted using heavy machinery, such as forklifts or cranes.

Transport

  • Before transporting, ensure the valve caps and covers are securely fastened on each cylinder. Do not leave connectors screwed into cylinders.
  • Fasten the cylinders down tight to avoid them falling and rolling around. Loose cylinders in a vehicle can result in police fines and are dangerous to both the driver and passengers.
  • Don't leave gas cylinders in your vehicle for long periods of time.

Storage

  • Never store gas cylinders for long periods of time, purchase what you need to cover you for your short-term needs.
  • Store in a safe, dry place on a flat surface in the open air.
  • Do not store in residential homes or spaces. Keep well out the way of family and any space that doesn't require the cylinders.
  • Never place cylinders in areas where they can be exposed to heat sources, ignitions or other flammable liquids.
  • Do not store cylinders in or near water. Be wary of rainfall or minor flooding that could compromise the cylinders.
  • Always ensure the valve is shut on empty cylinders to avoid contamination.
  • When not using the cylinder, store in a safe place and keep properly restrained.
  • Do not remove the warning or danger markings from the side of cylinders.
  • Avoid storing anywhere that impact accidents could occur, such as near moving vehicles.
